Trumansburg’s Empty Bowls Fundraiser at Atlas Bowl will kick off this year’s campaign to benefit the Trumansburg Food Pantry on Sunday March 6 from 1-3. A donation of $20 will buy a handmade bowl thrown and glazed at Salmon Pottery by Mary Ellen Salmon and her students. Guests can then fill their new bowls with hearty soups from Good To Go and other local restaurants, and bring them home to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

According to Anne Haus, of the Trumansburg-Ulysses Food Pantry, more than 200 households in the Trumansburg area benefited from the Food Pantry’s services in 2015. The Empty Bowls project started in 1990 as a single meal and has spread around the world to raise tens of millions of dollars for anti-hunger organizations. Local organizations sponsor and organize events which bring together potters to create the bowls and cooks to prepare hearty fare and members of the community to help raise money. The Trumansburg event is a community-sponsored fundraiser organized by Atlas Bowl, Good To Go and Salmon Pottery in coordination with the Food Pantry.

There will be raffles for items donated by community members and businesses. Anyone wishing to donate to the raffle can contact Mary Ellen Salmon at info@salmonpottery.com. Atlas Bowl is offering half price bowling during the event, and there will be a cash bar. Tickets (which come with two free raffle tickets if purchased at the gallery) are available at Salmon Gallery, 79 East Main St., Trumansburg on Saturdays and Sundays between 11-5 and at Good To Go all other times until March 5.
